Tourism

The municipality of Alphen-Chaam has everything a tourist could ever want: a rich history, water, forests and moorland.

Biking in Alphen-Chaam
Visitors can, for example, enjoy a stroll through extensive forest areas, which comprise many footpaths and bicycle tracks of varying lengths, as well as a variety of recreation areas and picnic sites.

In an attempt to combine relaxation and poetry, visual artist and poet Pien Storm van Leeuwen designed Belgian blue stone seating modules and benches (Resting places). She also made use of naturally-formed granite stones, into which verses have been engraved. With a route map, anyone can plan out their own route. The total distance spans approximately sixty kilometres.

The municipality has a variety of campsites, holiday parks and farmyard campsites. You can enjoy a stay in a large recreation area with a swimming and recreation lake, shore and sunbathing area, or you can visit the large swimming pool elsewhere in the municipality.

The land of the 'Het Broek' nature reserve (between Chaam and Ulvenhout) has been designated as a reservation and has been furnished with ponds, windbreaks, thickets and wetland areas. The earth freed during this work has formed a hill that has been designed as an observation point. This serves to make the area accessible without causing disturbance to the many birds within the area. The western part of the municipality is home to the Anneville and Hondsdonk country estates, both of which are rich in cultural history and scenery. The Anneville country estate is best-known for being the temporary residence of Queen Wilhelmina during the liberation in May 1945, and Hondsdonk.
